Synthesis of Graphene - Carbon Nanotube Hybrid Structures
Graphene, carbon nanotubes, a... - LIBRIS
This Feature Article reviews the recent progresses of carbon nanotubes and graphene researches and compares their electronic properties and electric device performances. Carbon nanotubes (CNTs) and graphene share a common structural element – they are both based on a periodic array of annelated benzene rings. While differing in dimensionality and curvature, they are sufficiently similar that both of them readily undergo hexahapto organometallic complexation reactions. Graphene vs. carbon nanotubes Graphene is the "single-layer graphite sheet," which is the basic structural unit of graphite, while carbon nanotubes are the cylinder structure formed by the curling of graphene. Making Graphene film is easier and it is very stable material too and can be activated from GO form to Graphene easily ,where as Carbon nanotubes can't be used as film.

Carbon nanotubes can be arranged in single or multi-walled . Nanoengineered materials such as carbon nanotubes and, more recently discovered, graphene ribbons (perfect two-dimensional sheets of carbon) are expected to have breaking lengths of 5000–6000 km (50–60 MPa/(kg/m 3)), and also are able to conduct electrical power. Graphene is the thinnest imaginable material; it is just one atomic layer of carbon atoms.
CNTs can be single-walled (SWCNTs or SWNTs) or multi-walled (MWCNTs or MWNTs). Carbon nanotubes (often abbreviated to CNTs) are cylindrically-shaped molecules made of carbon atoms. A sheet of graphene can be rolled-up to make a carbon nanotube. CNTs can be single-walled (SWCNT) if made from one layer of carbon atoms, or multi-walled (MWCNT) when consisting of several layers of graphene sheets.

Differences 1. CNT is 1D allotropes of carbon and Graphene is 2D single layer of graphite. Stacking the graphene layers can give us 2. The main difference is, the Graphene is a single thin layer 2D film, while the carbon nanotubes in a thin film rolled 3. Strength wise they differentiate as Low‐dimensional carbon allotropes such as carbon nanotube and graphene exhibit superior electronic, optoelectronic, and mechanical properties compared to the conventional semiconductors. James Tour at Rice University has a history of finding links between carbon nanotubes and graphene, which are often regarded merely as rivals for a host of electronic applications. A few years back, Tour developed a process for “unzipping” carbon nanotubes so that they transformed into graphene.
Just as impressive is the new material’s strength. Carbon nanomaterials have had an unprecedented impact over the past three decades in defining the reach and applications of nanotechnology. Starting with the discovery of fullerenes and moving through the carbon nanotube (CNT) era to graphene and other two-dimensional (2D) materials, the academic world has been flush with new ideas, inventions, and innumerable attempts to find the killer DigInfo - http://www.diginfo.tvFUJITSU LABORATORIESNew Carbon Composite of Nanotubes and GrapheneRelated Links :- http://jp.fujitsu.com/group/labs/- http://p Carbon nanotubes vs graphene nanoplatelets for 3D-printable composites To cite this article: G.
